Nigerian first lady, Patience Jonathan

As fresh crisis surrounding the health of the First Lady Mrs. Patience Jonathan brews, the presidency has fired her spokesman, Mr. Ayo Osinlu. The news is contained in a press release issued by the president’s Special Assistant on the Media, Dr. Reuben Abati.
Sahara-reporters sources say that the decision to fire Mr. Osinlu was taken by the First Lady from her hospital bed in Europe. Mrs. Patience Jonathan was mad at the inability of Mr. Osinlu to provide a foolproof decoy of a story to distract the media from her current medical surgeon abroad.
Mr. Osinlu was roundly criticized for the way he handled the news about the whereabouts of the First Lady last year. During the period, Mr. Osinlu told journalists that the First Lady went to Germany on vacation but Mrs. Jonathan later confirmed the story published by Saharareporters that she was hospitalized in Germany for weeks.
Our sources in Abuja said that the presidency felt that Mr. Osinlu had lost credibility with the media establishment and that the First Lady needed a heavy hitter the way the president recruited Dr. Doyin Okupe to strengthen his media team that was once in disarray.

Residents of Ronke Street and the environ, in Ijeshatedo area of Lagos State have raised the alarm over a letter purportedly written to them by armed robbers alerting them (residents) of their intention to raid the area. Oluwole Awolowo

Oluwole Awolowo, the second son of late Yoruba sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo is dead. He died today after a brief illness accordding to his sister, Tokunbo Awolowo.

Saharareporters confirmed that Mr. oluwole died in London hospital where he had been receiving treatment. Until his death Mr. Awolowo was the publisher of the Tribune newspapers.

Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, yesterday described, the University of Abuja as “a shame’ to the nation, and blamed the university’s governing council for the crisis.

She said the report of “a high-powered 40-man visitation panel” that conducted an investigation into the activities of the school exposed rot that “is deeper than what we are seeing now.”

She added that the report had been concluded and a White Paper drawn and submitted to President Goodluck Jonathan for approval.

“University of Abuja is supposed to be a pride to all of us, but, unfortunately, it is a shame! The university, since inception, there has been so much problem,” she said.

“There are two scenarios to the problem we are facing in the University of Abuja. One is the issue of programmes operated illegally for many years in the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture and that of Engineering.”

In his presentation, Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Julius Okogie, represented by the deputy executive secretary, Mr Akinbode Agbaoye, said the institution was warned several times by the commission not to set up the faculties, having failed to meet the requirements, but it refused to heed them.

Meanwhile, the vice chancellor of the school, Prof James Adelabu, absolved himself and his administration from the events that preceded the crisis, saying that he put an end to admission of new students on advice of the NUC in 2009.

Ijaw Leader and former Information Minister, Chief Edwin Clark remarried last week Sunday March 17th at the age of 86. Today is actually is 86th birthday. Happy birthday, sir! Back to the story. Chief Clark married well known medical doctor, Dr Abisola Sodipe Akindeko. The wedding ceremony took place at his home in Apapa and another one at the bride's home at Okupe Estate in Maryland.

Dr Abisola Akindeko is the former best friend of Iyabo Obasanjo who lost two of her children in an assassination attempt on Iyabo Obasanjo's life. Dr Abisola's children were riding in Iyabo's car when it was attacked by hired assassins in 2003. The gunmen, thinking Iyabo was in the car, shot into the car killing the two children instantly. Iyabo and Dr Abisola had been riding in the doctors car, while the children rode in Iyabo's car. It was a huge story back then. Glad to know she's doing well now!

With oil now selling at $93.61 a barrel, that’s $224 million in income daily. And yet many hospitals can’t afford to buy an ambulance. Osun State government last week commenced the distribution of the Computer Tablets of Learning (Opon Imo) to the students of government-owned secondary schools in the state.

The distribution of the tablets started at the Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo on Monday with 385 students in the Senior Secondary School 2 (SSS2), each receiving the technological device.The project, an initiative of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, specially designed for the students of public secondary schools in the state to improve their performance in internal and external examinations.

Nigerian central bank Governor Lamido Sanusi, who rescued the banking industry from near- collapse four years ago, said he won’t renew his contract when it expires in 2014.
