A former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Kazeem Ayilara died on Thursday. Street Journal gathered that the deceased drove to the University College Hospital by himself in the morning when he felt uneasy. He however died as a result of a heart attack some hours after.
Mourners have gathered in his Apata home since the news broke on Thursday evening.
Ayilara, a professional Town Planner was unceremoniously removed as Speaker in February 2008. He was also one of the G-8, a group of eight lawmakers who opposed the leadership style of Otunba Adebayo Akala when he was the Governor of Oyo State. The group was suspended by the other members of the House 0n June 8, 2010 for pushing for the impeachment of Governor Akala over alleged financial improprieties. The assembly complex had been invaded by thugs who beat up perceived opponents of the Governor in the Assembly, landing them in hospital wards.
Ayilara sought redress in the court and his removal as Deputy Speaker was declared illegal, null and void. Justice Mukhtar Abimbola ordered his reinstatement in February 2011.
Several attempts were also made on his life and in one of such attempts, his security guard was killed.
