UN estimates Nigeria's flood relief need to $38 million



The United Nations says Nigeria will need $38 million (about N5.7 billion) in emergency aid to assist the 2.1 million people displaced from their homes as a result of the flooding.
Speaking on Friday, the body's spokesperson in the office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Jens Laerke said the aid plan comprises food, water, shelter and schools in the farming and fishing communities along the Niger River.
The National Emergency Agency (NEMA) office in its statistics indicates that the recent flood considered to be the worst in about 50 years sent over 360 people to their early graves and affected over 7 million people.
NEMA also said that the flood disaster have displaced 2.1 million people and injured about 18,282 people.
